14 year-old Katie Kwong become a member of the National Children's Orchestra in 2003. The NCO gives talented children aged 7 - 13 the opportunity to play in full age-banded symphony orchestras, and by the age of 12 Katie had become the Leader of the NCO's main orchestra - two years ahead of the average progression. Her consistently outstanding performance at NCO's annual auditions resulted in her being awarded an NCO-Leverhulme Trust Scholarship for five successive years.

During Katie's six years as a member of NCO she took part in many concerts at top venues around the country, including Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, and the Queen Elizabeth Hall. In January 2005 following the Indonesian tsunami disaster, she joined other members of NCO to record the charity single "Grief Never Grows Old" at the Abbey Road studios. Katie is now a member of the National Youth Orchestra where her seat is supported by the NYO Wolfson Scholarship Fund.

Katie started playing the violin at the age of three and soon started entering local music festivals. By the age of five she had joined her local string orchestra. Katie's school, North London Collegiate, entered her quartet group for the National Pro Corda for Schools in 2007 award where they won first prize, following which they played in a prize-giving concert at the Cadogan Hall. Katie has won many first prize awards over the years, including The Most Promising Young Musician of the Year at the Beckenham Festival for two years running.

Katie has taken part in numerous local music festivals and has performed at the Royal College of Music, the Purcell Room, the Anvil in Basingstoke, the Brighton Dome and in both Venice and Recanati in Itally.

As well as her virtuosic violin skills, she also plays the trumpet to Grade 6 standard and piano to Grade 7.
