Amy J Payne - Mezzo-Soprano
Amy hails from South Devon and is currently studying on the Opera Studies course at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she is taught by Theresa Goble. She holds an honours degree in French and German from King's College London.
She works as a professional oratorio singer and recitalist nationwide, both as a soloist and a chorister. She first performed the Sea Pictures in recital at Southwark Cathedral last year.
At conservatoire, she has been directed in projects by Graham Johnson MBE (Vaughan Williams concert series, Nov 2008), Iain Burnside (Lads in their Hundreds, Jan 2009) and Sarah Walker CBE (Messiah, March 2009).
She played Olga (Eugene Onegin) at the Dartington International Summer School 2008 as a recipient of a bursary scholarship. In the last academic year, she was recipient of The School's English Song Prize and won The Susan Longfield Competition.
Other operatic experience includes: Alto Chorus, The Pilgrim's Progress (Philharmonia Voices), Anne Who Strips (cover), The King goes forth to France (GSMD), Arina (cover), The Marriage (GSMD), Alto Chorus, Acis & Galatea (Westminster Opera), Un Pâtre/La Chatte/La Libellule, L'enfant et les Sortileges (Syred Consort), Sarah/Eliza, Jacko's Hour (Opera Engine).
Upcoming projects include a performance of Hans Werner Henze's Voices for GSMD and the BBC at The Barbican in January and a week of masterclasses with the Samling Foundation.
